The Fine Chemicals Group (FCG) is the largest Technical Interest Group within SCI, bringing together representatives from over 35 companies and academic institutions, representing an extremely broad spectrum of UK chemistry.

Our members include technical scientists, expert consultants, directors, and company founders, creating a diverse network of expertise and experience.

We organise a wide range of events designed to connect the scientific and industrial communities, foster innovation, and support professional development. These include careers-focused symposia and training workshops, as well as our flagship multi-day conferences exploring emerging areas of science and technology.

As a group, we aim to bring together the chemistry community, train the next generation of scientists, and support SCI’s strategic priorities around Climate and Planet, Health & Wellbeing, and Sustainability.

We are committed to helping our members build networks, share knowledge, and develop their skills. Diversity and equality are at the heart of what we do: we strive to ensure inclusivity across all our activities and to feature high-quality speakers from a wide range of backgrounds. Flexible presentation options are available to encourage participation from all.

If you are interested in contributing to the group or learning more about our activities, please get in touch. We also encourage you to explore opportunities with our partners in the Young Chemists’ Panel (YCP).

In brief

We aim to promote organic chemistry and its application to the fine chemicals industry. We organise high-quality specialist symposia with internationally-renowned speakers around the world, and general overview meetings for students and organic chemists in academia and industry to refresh and improve their knowledge base and assist in their professional development.

We also work to raise the profile of organic chemistry and the fine chemicals industry with the general public and facilitate links between organic chemists in industry and academia, and recent graduates and their peers in industry and academia through the Group's series of meetings.
